AJ Zhang is a Designer at Tyler+Kelly Architecture, and a recent graduate of the University of Southern California's Bachelor of Architecture program (May 2026).

Throughout their education at USC, AJ explored the dynamic relationship between the built environment and those who navigate it, developing a passion for architecture that prioritizes user experience and challenges the status quo. They believe architectural and urban design have the power to influence both the individual and the collective, and should be used in innovative ways for positive change. AJ's fifth-year thesis researched informality within the urban fabric, reimagining the terrain vague as an opportunity to break from traditional ideas of domesticity and living. Their minor in Technical Game Art — covering storytelling, animation, rigging, and 3D modeling and visualization for characters and environments — gives them a unique perspective on visual narratives. Prior to Tyler+Kelly, AJ worked as an independent contractor for Uriu Architecture on single-family Eaton fire rebuilds, and interned with KTGY's Los Angeles High Density Studio on mixed-use projects across both technical and design teams.

At Tyler+Kelly, AJ applies their academic studies with an approach that is practical and solution-oriented, but also artistic, philosophical, and intrinsically human.

Outside the office, AJ has a love and appreciation for arts and music, and enjoys sketching, painting, dancing, and playing the piano.
